Martha Southery Durston (nee Green) was born December 3, 1820 in the parish of Kidderminster and was baptised Feb 18, 1821. Her parents were James Green and Catherine his wife. Records are from Ebenezer Chapel of the parish register of Kidderminster, Worchestershire. A sister, Mary Ann was born August 3, 1823.
The family evidently moved from the Birmingham area as she was married at a location near Weston-Super-Mare (Christon) to Thomas Durston of Bleadon. This wedding occurred October 4, 1855 and was witnessed by the following: Sam Giblett, of Shepton Mallet Frank I. Nalder of Shepton Mallet Jane Durston (Mother of the groom) Mary S. Lewis (Possibly Mary A and Martha's sister?)
The marriage was performed by Septimus Pope and was by license. Thomas Durston is listed as Bachelor, she as Spinster. His father is listed as Farmer and hers as Gentleman.
After marriage, they lived at "South Hill farm" at Bleadon. This farm was run by Thomas' brother John and Thomas at census time 1851. In 1841, William and Eliza (Thomas' brother and sister) were listed as the farmers.
There were six children born of this marriage, William Frederick, Catherine Anne, Tom Cary, John, Arthur, and Anthony.
Martha died March 20, 1895 and is buried in the Bleadon Churchyard at the immediate rear of the church.
Their graves are near the rear wall of the Bleadon Church
